So, from now on things will be changing in my journal. From now on, I'll be sharing different things and telling you; the Dogster community; if they have the Sandy Approval. So, what is the Sandy Approval you might ask?Well, I admit, I'm a tough dog to please. I love food; but, I'll let you know if I don't like something. I'll lick it and spit it out. I don't like too many toys. I don't care much for most clothes. I'm even picky about the collars I wear. So, when something pleases a dog like myself; that HAS to mean something, right? That's why I'm starting this set of Journal Entries called: Sandy Approved. First off, The title will be the name of the item, recipe, treat, food, etc. And, the beginning of the entry (in all capital letters) will simply state rather I approve the item or not. It will either say SANDY APPROVED or NOT SANDY APPROVED. Then, under that, I will grade the object according to how much I liked it on the usual A,B,C scale. Things I absolutely ADORE will get an A. Things that I love will get a B. Things that I don't mind will get a C. Things that I hate will get a D. Things that I LOATHE will get an F. And, below the grade will be my review. If it's a recipe, the recipe will be included. So, welcome to Sandy Approved!!*cough*
Now, to bring the first Sandy Approved entry;
SnickerPoodles
SANDY APPROVED
Grade: A
Ingredients
5 cups all-purpose flourone
25-ounce jar applesauce
2 cups old-fashioned oatmeal
4 tbsps ground cinnamon
2 tbsps vegetable oil
2 tbsps honey
Directions
1 Place all ingredients in a large bowl. Mix thoroughly to combine.
2 Roll out dough on floured surface to about 1/4-inch thick. Using a cookie cutter, cut into poodle shapes. Combine dough scraps and continue to roll out and cut into shapes until all dough has been used.
3 Place cookies on ungreased foil-lined baking sheets, and bake in a preheated 325F oven for 30 to 35 minutes. Makes 5 to 6 dozen cookies.
Recipe came from: The Good Food Cookbook for Dogs By: Twichell Roberts
While Daddy made my snickerpoodles, I sat idly by and watched. I was curious. Daddy never bakes. And I mean NEVER. So, watching him roll out cookies was a new site to me. I've began to associate his cooking with my food; so, instantly, I put two and two together and KNEW he must be cooking for me. As he mixed the ingredients, he let me lick some applesauce off his finger. Already, I was hooked. I loved the taste of the applesauce. I noticed that he had a little trouble rolling out the dough- but, that's to be expected with dog treats as you can't use a lot of the things human cookies call for- like sugar, for example. And, the dough stuck to his hands a lot. But, that was okay. He let me lick it off and I didn't mind one bit! While the cookies baked, I sat in the kitchen and sniffed at the air. They smelled REALLY good. Even Daddy's momma commented on how it smelled delicious. It didn't take that long for them to bake and in no time, they were done. The first batch came out a bit chewy; he used a little too much honey. But, the second batch was excellent!! I loved them and will do almost any trick for one! Lilo didn't like the chewier ones and found them hard to eat, but once Daddy got down to the not-so-chewy ones, she gobbled them down, too! I give Snickerpoodles an A. They are Sandy Approved.

Homecooked!!
My POV
----------------
Today was the best day of my life. Fur realz. SO, usually, in the evening, all I get is bland kibble that I wouldn't eat unless my tummy were forcing me to; and, even then, I eat it with a sigh. So, of course, today, when Daddy disappeared into the laundry room where the kibble is kept; I expected him to come out with two bags; one for me and the big dogs and one for Sakura; he did. But, this time, he didn't go directly to our feeding areas! He went into the kitchen... and, reached into the fridge. Which was weird cuz that's where the hooman food is kept, isn't it? I wuz all confoosed. I ran into the kitchen and stared at him. Wondering where dinner was. He gave me a smile and opened the container, putting the food on top of our kibble!!! When he brought my dish in the living room, I thought I was dreaming! There was kielbasa and carrots and a little bit of rice... oh my! I felt like royalty. Like a part of the human family! I loved the meal SO much, I gobbled it down instantly instead of attempting to let it sit. Thinking back, I remember watching him stir up this knew experiement. He says it's called Hoppin' Jack Russell and that it's mainly a topper and supposed to be a good starter for those knew to home cookin'. He spent two hours slaving in the kitchen cooking up the meal. And, I discovered he had carrots and waited patiently for some. I hope ever meal day is this way from now on. Please, Dog; if there is a Dog; let all my meals include human grade meat, carrots and other such things.
Daddy's POV
-----------
So, I finally picked up some ingredients and cooked their first home cooked meal. The big dogs didn't get as much of it as it was intended to serve small dogs for a few days and big dogs for only two. And, I didn't want it to all be gone in one day. (I have five dogs; trust me, it would've been) Next time, I'm doubling the recipe, though. For the big dogs. Well, the recipe was mainly a "starter" recipe or a party recipe, so it doesn't meet all the nutritonal requirments and therefore required to have some kibble or canned food mixed in. That was no problem as I planned on doing that to switch them anyway. It was called Hoppin' Jack Russell and if you want the recipe, don't be afraid to ask. I saw it in a book and then found a similar recipe online and, finally, decided to use it. Except, the recipe in the book called for celery; I substituted that with carrots cuz Sandy HATES celery. Well, Dogster, I think I finally found a diet for my dogs that my mom agrees with. Tried Evo. Did okay for a short while until she began complaining about how much I was spending on it. Blah, blah, blah. Suggested raw or BARF. That was a no go. Attempted all canned; also no go as she stuck in the stone age and still believe kibble benefits the teeth. Well, the other day, I said "What about homecooked?" She said "What?" I said "What if I cooked for my dogs?" She said "I don't care." And, it went from there. In fact, today, as I was cooking, she said "He doesn't even cook for himself but will cook for his dogs. That's a dedicated dog owner." THAT put a smile on my face. Well, the dogs LOVED the food. They ate it all up. Sakura picked out the carrots; so, I'll have to try something else for her. Sandy devoured it all as did all the others. Sandy liked it best, I think. Dogster, I have NEVER seen her so excited to eat in the evening!! She was dancing like she does for her wet food. I'm excited to be coming into the homecooked world and will have tons of questions in the future. So, welcome a homecooked family into the picture. We're enjoying the good life now. OH!! I also find homecooking to be a GREAT bonding experience. The entire time I was cooking, I had an audience and I couldn't help but drop a carrot. Or two... or three... Plus, all that time you spend for them... GREAT for bonding.
